The Power of Words • 音言霊 EXHIBITION @ ARTS RUSH GALLERY, DAIKANYAMA
I love words.
Big, ungainly words. Short, sharp, to-the-point words. Rare, hand-me-a-dictionary words. Words that rhyme or beat out a rhythm. Words that make people gasp and cover their mouths. There are no words that serve no purpose. There are no true synonyms.
Discover the special, tiny pleasure in using the perfect word in conversation. It doesn’t happen often. Every once in a while, the brain finds the dexterity to slam the exact right syllables together. Pause the conversation and bathe in the aura of that moment.
Good words are the spice that make human interaction piquant, memorable, delicious.
Sure, we can get by with the basics. We can also eat potatoes and white bread every meal, but how fun is that?
Words have power. To enable or disable. To kill or heal. To bring together or tear asunder.
It is a truism that a picture is worth a thousand words. It is also true that the right word at the right moment can give birth to a thousand pictures. This, I think, creates a very virtuous cycle of words begetting images begetting words, on into infinite. Beautiful.
Arts Rush gallery celebrates, along with 8 creators, the impact of words by way of images and objects in The Power Of Words • 言霊 Exhibition. The show opens today and runs until October 25th. Drift on by. The collection of work is as majestically formidable as it is diverse.
