Just short of one year ago, Arts Rush gallery in Daikanyama, Tokyo held their occasionally-annual Kachofugetsu exhibition.
At that time, COVID-19 was pretty much the only thing, dominating the news and monopolizing people’s mindspaces. 12 months (minus 10 days) later and …are we just beginning to see a pinpoint of light at the end of this dingy tunnel?
Schools reopened in Japan in June (although the constantly changing schedule has turned planning life into a test of flexibility). Much of the world seems to have a vaccine available - it’s just started testing here, so we continue our masked-up lifestyle. My breath mint budget is shocking.
The one singular positive outcome of this horrific virus is that it has forced many of us to rediscover the wonders of the outdoors. Of fresh air, seashores, leaves carried on the wind. Sometimes drifting like cherry blossoms on a gentle spring breath, sometimes barreling down on us like a massive tusked pig with it's head on fire.
That, after all, is the true meaning of Kachofugetsu (花鳥風月), a celebration of the power and beauty of nature. Just in time for the start of spring.
Arts Rush gallery has once again gathered together 9 gifted and expressive artists to join in this celebration exploring the vast power and majesty of the natural world, in an amazing array of creativity and vision. I hope that you can come on by the gallery to be awed and inspired. It’s worth it! (not that International flights are a thing yet…).
As usual with out-of-town shows, I can’t be there in-person to meet the collectors and art lovers, or artists. Sorry.
