Eto • Tora Exhibition @ Arts Rush Gallery, Daikanyama
Happy New Year of the Tiger!
Not so long ago, I was certain that I had emerged from the jungle onto a clear, new path. Barely two steps along the way, the great orange cat pounced and dragged me back into the shadow of the trees.
Which is my way of saying that, a couple months ago, I had pretty much decided to put the Eto/Zodiac and it’s animals behind me (except for the monkey, which continues to elude me, but I will catch it, oh yes, I shall!) as I began work on two entirely new series. Little did I know that the universe had other plans for me, and right soon.
Tiger came knocking, in the guise of Art Rush Gallery’s 干支•虎 exhibition. And there was simply no way I could say “No”. So I didn’t.
Actually, this particular predator settled itself very quickly and neatly into one of my new series (and perhaps both? I’ve got a weird little experiment that I’m dying to try next that has a decidedly orange and black feline flavor). And so, a new piece of art was cobbled together for this exhibition. Yay! And also, a new print made of an older piece. Double yay!
For many reasons I unfortunately cannot attend this exhibition in Daikanyama, Tokyo, but I sure hope that you can! The art is truly tigerrific!
