Enter the Year of the Dragon at Arts Rush Gallery, Tokyo
Happy New Year 2024!
Well, almost. In just a scant few days, 2023 will be scurrying away, most likely in the middle of the night. And I doubt it’ll be back to visit anytime soon. It’ll be like it disappeared down a tiny, dark hole. Which kinda makes sense, considering it was the year of the rabbit.
While I didn’t actually meet (or make) any rabbits, art-wise this past year has actually been pretty fun. I experimented with new techniques and materials, which was exciting - and I’ve got plans to stretch even more on that front soon. I got to meet a couple of really cool people, friends both old and new. And there have been some exciting opportunities to join shows and exhibitions alongside a plethora of extremely talented creators.
Time, of course, moves inexorably forward.
What better way to start a new year than with a scorching, white hot burst of creativity! Particularly a draconic year. Which 2024 will be. The year of the dragon.
When Arts Rush Gallery invited me to take part in their 干支・辰 (Eto • Year of the Dragon) exhibition, I was thrilled to share my most recent giant lizard monster art. When i suddenly realized that I hadn’t made any. Sure, there were large amphibians and a monstrous kaiju, but no dragons, drakes, or wyverns. I immediately set about to rectify that situation (of which there is a tease below).
Fly on by Arts Rush in Daikanyama, Tokyo to enjoy an amazing array of Dragons, big and small, from now until January 8, 2024 (check the schedule below as they are closed a couple holidays).
